India may become software testing hub

According to www.sify.com, software bugs or errors cost the US economy an estimated $ 59.5 billion annually, which is equivalent to 0.6 per cent of its gross domestic product. This loss is borne by users and developers of software. At least a third of this cost can be saved through better quality and timely software testing.
Because testing requires a thorough knowledge of the business process in the segment and of the testing process and methodology, and even a moderately skilled resource that fits this description is scarce, the article claims that offshore destinations, such as India, have a large pool of human resource that can be turned into high quality testing professionals.

Laptops outsell desktops

As reported by the businessweek online, the analysis of sales from a sampling of electronics retailers shows that notebook sales accounted for 53 percent of the total personal computer market last month, up from 46 percent during the same period last year.
Such demand is triggered by the overall price drop and improved quality of the notebooks.

Chinese computer maker Lenovo said Sunday it has completed its US$1.25 billion purchase of IBM’s personal computer division, creating the world’s third-largest PC maker, behind Dell and Hewlett-Packard.

As reported by the PCWorld.com, Lenovo is promising a wave of new product introductions to come within weeks, and which can be soon seen on Lenovo’s newly revamped web site for the U.S.

Red Hat’s earnings more than doubled in the company’s fiscal Q4

As reported by the Internetnews.com, Red Hat earned $11.8 million in the quarter, or six cents a share, up from $4.8 million, or three cents a share, in the year ago quarter. The company’s earnings were in line with Wall Street’s expectations, and revenues of $57.5 million beat $56 million estimates. Subscription revenues of $45.4 million were up 92% and topped $44.8 million forecasts.
